| Campus media opportunities include doing a radio show, play-by-play for a game, preparing a newscast, uploading information and graphics for the online news site, working on the newspaper and preparing video for EHC-TV or the web. Everyone knows that finding a good job is a competitive endeavor. It is important, however, to remember that good people are always in demand. Good writers can always find employment. So, if you make the best of your preparation as an undergraduate, you will have skills that appeal to employers. The campus provides an excellent training ground for communications professionals. Serious communications majors absolutely must be involved in working for one or more of the campus media. Not only will it improve your skills and give you experience, it will make your resume stand out among others. The first semester of your first year is the time to start. Academic Credit For Campus Involvement Mass communications majors can receive one-half of a semester hour credit per term for substantial involvement with the newspaper or radio station beginning with the sophomore year. The maximum total is two semester hours credit. Two semester hours can be a significant contribution toward the total of 116-hour graduation requirement and the value of your resume. WEHC-FM, the campus radio station The college FM station, WEHC-FM 90.7, provides mass communications majors and other interested students a chance to improve their broadcasting skills while experiencing the responsibilities of having their own programs. The station is heard in a 10-mile radius where it has a loyal listening audience. Especially popular are broadcasts of the college football and basketball games now delievered nationwide to the desktop computer using Real Audio. A radio shift is not difficult to obtain, training is easy, and the station can always use people who do play-by-play announcing at sporting events. The Whitetopper, the campus newspaper The college newspaper, The Whitetopper, provides the opportunity to publish your work so that you can present a portfolio demonstrating your abilities for internship positions and jobs.
