About mass communications
The Perfect Major for the Information Age

The Emory & Henry Department of Mass Communications combines cutting-edge ideas and technology with a classic liberal arts education. Graduates find careers in print, broadcasting, web journalism, graphic and web design, public relations, and advertising.

Outside of the classroom, mass communications students conduct their own music or talk radio shows, or work on the weekly edition of the campus newspaper. Mass communications students understand the importance of active involvement in campus media, By the time students graduate, their resumes demonstrate to new employers the practical experience and skills acquired on and off campus.

As the department looks toward the future, plans are underway to add a multimedia track where students can combine their writing, design, and video skills for CD-Rom or Internet delivery. Video students have already begun exploring the challenges of all-digital video editing.

An institution grounded in history and tradition, Emory & Henry College prepares its mass communication graduates for the modern world and all of its communication technologies. More and more, employers are competing for Emory & Henry communications graduates. With award-winning journalists and Emmy-winning TV news photographers, the prestige of a mass communications diploma is increasing. Previous students have won national video awards, national writing awards, and state broadcasting awards. Regionally, audiences are accustomed to cable television programs and special writing series that appear in area newspapers, all produced by students.

The Emory & Henry Department of Mass Communications is thriving, successful, active and involved -- the place to be for a background in modern communication.

The department's unique and broad-based curriculum and training is the secret to our success, as described in our departmental philosophy.
