Financial Aid

The primary goal of the financial aid program is to assist those students who otherwise might be unable to attend the college because of lack of funds. The program of need-based financial aid encompasses grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study assignments. For those students who receive large amounts of assistance, the aid typically is given in a mixture of these forms; this helps avoid placing an undue burden on any one student in the form of loans.

The following information emphasizes procedures of applying for need-based financial assistance and the residency-based Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) program for students from Virginia. Emory & Henry also has a strong program of merit scholarships. Prospective first-year students are considered for merit awards on the basis of outstanding records of high school academic achievement and exceptional scores on college entrance examinations. Students with such backgrounds are identified through their admission applications and, if eligible, are notified of their award and invited to a recognition event on campus. Upperclass students and transfer students who have excellent college academic records are automatically considered for certain merit awards. Consult with the Financial Aid Office about merit-based financial assistance or special programs such as church vocations grants, or visit the college to obtain more information.
