How aid is awarded

All need-based aid is awarded on the basis of information provided in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form takes into account the varied financial factors affecting each student including individual or family earnings and assets, liabilities and debts, number of children enrolled in college, and other pertinent information.

The Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG), a non-need form of aid, is based on proven residency in the state. Other non-need types of aid, such as academic scholarships, are awarded on the basis of demonstrated academic achievements or specific criteria as outlined by the Financial Aid Office.
