The Western tradition

Objectives: To develop a clearer understanding of Western traditions and a deeper awareness of the diverse cultures that have contributed to their evolution, by encouraging dialogue and engagement with selected texts and works of art. To enhance essential skills of reading with discernment, thinking critically, listening wisely, and writing and speaking effectively.
Requirement: Every first-year student takes Western Tradition 100 during the fall and spring semesters.

Western Tradition Course
WTRA 100A-100B The Western Tradition
General, chronological survey of the major epochs in the Western Tradition. Exploration in depth of a coherent series of topics across the broad spectrum of our common western heritage. Provision of a context for learning through detailed study of selected epochs, events, persons, ideas, and values that have formed our past and that inform our present and our future. A two-semester course. Three semester hours during each semester.
