SPAN 101 and 102 Beginning Spanish I and II
Oral and written drill mastery of minimum vocabulary. Three hours master
class, three hours drill class. 101 is prerequisite to 102. Four semester
hours.
SPAN 201 Intermediate Spanish I
Selected readings and review of grammar and vocabulary. Preparation for
literary courses. Prerequisite: 102 or placement.
SPAN 202 Intermediate Spanish II
Prose readings of graded difficulty selected to develop reading skills
and provide preparation for advanced literary study. Prerequisite: 201.
SPAN 203 Spanish Conversation
Training to develop natural patterns of speech. Vocabulary and usage of
everyday conversation. Prerequisite: 102.
SPAN 205 Contemporary Issues in Spanish
Intermediate-level conversation and readings, based on discussion of current
social and political issues affecting Spanish-speaking communities. Prerequisite:
201.
SPAN 300 Hispanic Civilization
Introduction to Hispanic history, civilization, culture, and fine arts.
Prerequisite: 201.
SPAN 301 Survey I
Spanish-American literature from colonial days to the present. Prerequisite:
201.
SPAN 302 Survey II
Spanish literature from Medieval Period through Golden Age. Prerequisite:
201.
SPAN 303 Survey III
Spanish literature from 1700 to 1900. Prerequisite: 201.
SPAN 304 Survey IV
Spanish literature from the generation of 1898 to the present. Prerequisite:
201.
SPAN 330 and 331 Study Abroad Program
Travel and study abroad in a program approved by the department. Prerequisite:
two semesters of college language study.
SPAN 350 Special Topics
Discussion and study of selected topics in Spanish language and literature
with emphasis on the interests of students. Prerequisite: two years of
language study or permission of instructor. One to three semester hours.
SPAN 402 Advanced Conversation, Grammar, and Composition
Designed to increase facility in using Spanish. Prerequisite: junior status
and at least one 300 level course.
SPAN 403 Pro-Seminar
Readings, lectures, reports, and discussions of selected topics from Spanish
literature. Study in depth for Spanish majors. Prerequisite: departmental
permission.
SPAN 404 Cervantes
Intensive study of Don Quixote. Reading of critical analyses and various
interpretations. Prerequisite: departmental permission.
SPAN 460 Independent Study
Advanced directed study in a specific area. Prerequisites: junior or senior
status; departmental approval. One to four semester hours.
SPAN 470 Internship
Work experience jointly supervised by department and a professional in
the field. Minimum 120 hours field work plus on-campus assignments. Prerequisites:
junior or senior status, approval of department, and completion of appropriate
coursework. Pass-Fail only.
