Mass communications Mass Communications (B.A.) In consultation with the advisor, majors may follow individual interests and choose courses leading to careers in print, broadcasting, graphic design, or corporate on-line and multimedia communication. Objectives: To provide liberal arts students a thorough foundation in the theories and applications of mass communications and an understanding of the function of communication in society. To develop broad-based skills and understanding which will prepare students for a wide variety of careers or for advanced study in communication, business, government, or law. Requirements: Core courses are 101, 201, 202, 260, 304, 390, 451, and either 470 or 480. Two additional courses are chosen in consultation with the advisor. The college mathematics requirement is met by Mathematics 120, 121, 123, or 151. In addition, mass communications majors must take two semesters of a foreign language or Statistics 161, 162, or 163. Majors in mass communications choose a minor in another discipline, or a contextual and support area developed no later than the junior year and approved by the advisor.
