Business Administration

Management (B.S.)
Objective: To give students a broadly-based background in business administration leading to employment or graduate study.
Requirements: Core courses are Economics 151, 152; Accounting 201 and 202; Management 203, 305, 345, 360, 441, 445, and 449; Computer Information Management 140. The senior project requirement is met by successful completion of Management 449. Two additional courses must be selected in consultation with the department from other departmental offerings. The college mathematics requirement is met by Statistics 161, 162, or 163; the department also requires either Mathematics 151 or Management 352X. Students planning graduate study are encouraged to take Mathematics 151, 152, 253, and 321. Students also select a minor in another discipline or a contextual and support area. The contextual and support area for management is divided into three groups. Students must select six courses in consultation with the department, choosing at least one course from each group.
(a) For the development of analytical tools, research techniques, and communication skills, students select from Economics 251; English 321, 333; Theatre 150; Mass Communications 390; Mathematics 151, 152; Computer Science 190, 270, 290; Philosophy 231; Psychology 211, 315, and Sociology 335.
(b) For understanding individual and group behavior, students select from Asian Studies 241; Environmental Studies 100; Geography 111, 200; History 212; Mass Communications 101; Political Science 103, 117, 217; Public Policy and Community Service 100; Psychology 101, 102, 304, 313, 411; and Sociology 101.
(c) In order to understand the relationship between individuals and society and between organizations and society, students select from Earth Science 201; Economics 231, 262, 321, 322, 330, 332; Geography 221, 231; History 220; Mass Communications 451; Philosophy 201; Political Science 205; and Sociology 221, 229, and 270.

Management with an accounting emphasis (B.S.)
Objective: To prepare students for a career or graduate study in accounting.
Requirements: Students must complete the management core of Economics 151 and 152; Accounting 201 and 202; Management 203, 305, 345, 360, 441, 445, and 449; Computer Information

Management 140. The senior project requirement is met by successful completion of Management 449. In addition, students must complete Accounting 301, 302, 310, 340, 401 and 409. The college mathematics requirement is met by Statistics 161, 162, or 163; the department also requires either Mathematics 151 or Management 352X. Students planning graduate study are encouraged to take Mathematics 151, 152, 253, and 321. Students also select a minor in another discipline or the contextual and support courses specified for the management track above.

The accounting curriculum incorporates 124 required hours of credit and includes the accounting and management courses needed to fulfill the specific course requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA examination in Virginia. In addition to specific course requirements, CPA examination applicants must complete a minimum of 150 total hours of college credits. The required 26 hours that exceed the Emory & Henry requirements may be completed at either the undergraduate or the graduate level. Students contemplating taking the Uniform CPA examination should be aware of the requirements of the state in which they wish to sit for the exam. Business - Teacher Preparation (B.S.)
Objective: To give students a broadly based background in business administration and to prepare them for careers teaching in secondary schools.
Requirements: Core courses are Economics 151 and 152; Accounting 201 and 202; Management 203, 305, 345, 360, 441, 445, and 449; Computer Information Management 140. The senior project requirement is met by successful completion of Management 449. Students must also complete Management 470 or a significant experience approved by the Neff Center Director. The college mathematics requirement is met by Mathematics 121, 123, or 151; and Statistics 161, 162, or 163. Students also complete the following contextual and support courses: Psychology 305; Education 115 (four enrollments), 370, 401, 441 (student teaching), 445, 449, and 450. (Note: Education 440, 441, and 450 are taken in the professional semester.) Students should take the following courses when completing their general education requirements: Speech 150; a lab science (four hours) other than psychology; and History 211 or 212. In addition to completing Computer Information Management 140, it is also recommended that students complete the VFIC Computer Competence Exam (Tek.Xam). Students completing this major must meet the basic requirements of licensure (see Education Department listing). Specifically, students must achieve and maintain a GPA of 2.5 overall and in the major at Emory & Henry. In addition, students must meet the state requirements on Praxis I.

International Studies and Business (B.S.)
Objectives: To provide students with a professional education and an understanding of the political, economic, and cultural complexities in the world. To prepare students for careers in business, journalism, diplomacy, international law, or public policy.
Requirements:
(a) Business core: Accounting 201 and 202; Management 305, 320, 345, 441, 445, and 449.
(b) Economics core: Economics 151, 152, and 322 or 323.
(c) Global education core: International Studies 205, 300, and 450 or 460.
(d) Contextual and support courses representing one of these three options:
• Asian Studies: International Studies 241 or 244, 245; one course from Asian Studies 212X, 248, or Global Studies 422; Political Science 425.
• European Studies: Political Science 235; one course from History 302, 303, Sociology 320, 325; one course from English 201, 202, French 300, 303, 304, 402, Spanish 300, 303, 304, 402; one course from Political Science 425, International Studies 435, Geography 333.
• Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies: Political Science 225, 425; Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies 204 or 355X; one course from Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies 211X, 252, 255.
(e) The college mathematics requirement: Statistics 161, 162, or 163.
(f) The Global Studies requirement: Global Studies 410 or 430.
(g) Language requirement: a minimum of four courses in a foreign language. Students who wish to study a foreign language not offered at Emory & Henry can do so at cooperating institutions either in the United States or abroad.

Minor in Management
A student may minor in management by completing Economics 151, Management 345, and four additional courses selected from the following: Economics 152, Accounting 201 or 202, Management 305, 308, 320, 441, or 445.

Minor in Accounting
A student majoring in a discipline other than management may minor in accounting by completing Accounting 201 and 202 and four additional courses selected from the following: Accounting 301, 302, 310, 340, 401, 409, or Management 308 or 445.

Minor in International Business
A student majoring in a discipline other than management may minor in international business by completing International Studies 205X or Geography 221; Economics 151, 152, and 322; and Management 305 and 320.
